Children Grow and Learn with ChiChi & ChaCha Star Search

Sunday, November 23, 2014

Only 50 shortlisted participants competed in the Challenge Round on Saturday where only the Top 10 moved on to the Grand Finals where they were judged based on 3P’s; Performance, Potential and Personality.

50 participants from as young as 6 to 18 years old competed for the chance to be the next ChiChi & ChaCha star at Main Place, USJ 21 on 15 and 16 November 2014. Aimed at providing children the opportunity to grow and learn social and leadership skills whilst showcasing their talents, the event was organised by proPassion Communications, a student PR consultancy of Taylor’s University.

proPassion Communications is led by Thaera Yousef, advisor and lecturer of Taylor’s University, coached by industry mentors, Group MAD and supported by Big Fish Media who owns the intellectual property of ChiChi & ChaCha, the first children’s edutainment series combining live action and 3D animated characters that recently premiered on Astro Ceria (Channel 611) and Astro Maya HD (Channel 135) on 11 October 2014.

Executive Producer of Big Fish Media, Jojo Struys shared, “Featuring a dynamic group of high energy TV hosts, ChiChi & ChaCha utilises various mediums such as song, dance, music, as well as 3D animation to create a positive environment that educates as well as entertains. The “Be The Next ChiChi & ChaCha Star” talent search complements our efforts and vision to ensure a fun-filled environment for children all around Malaysia to grow and learn.”

“To raise awareness of ChiChi & ChaCha, we were very happy to be able to collaborate and support proPassion by presenting them an opportunity to work on a real-time campaign,” added Struys.

Thaera Yousef said that the teaching approach for this project is experiential learning, where students learn through action, discovery and exploration.

“Being able to learn outside the classroom and have a hands-on experience is a powerful tool to develop students’ skills and gain knowledge of the industry,” added Thaera.

Prior to the event, hundreds of entrants submitted their 15-second-long video showcasing their dancing, beatboxing, singing and body-bending abilities among others via proPassions’s Instagram and through onsite prequalifying video shoots in multiple talent studios.

Only 50 shortlisted participants competed in the Challenge Round on Saturday to secure one of only ten spots in the Grand Finals where they were judged based on 3P’s; Performance, Potential and Personality.

At the end of the two-day event, beatboxer Leong Sawyer, 6, and singer-dancer Crystalbelle Wong Shiang Yi, 11, emerged as champions, earning them each a spot in the 2015 ChiChi & ChaCha roadshow where they will stand a chance to train, choreograph and perform with the show’s award-winning hosts, Sweet, Afiq, Farisha, Leen and Harris. The two winners also walked away with RM 1,000 in cash each.

Wong said, “I tried my best in the competition and I’m happy that many of my family and friends came out to support me today.”

The judging panel for the Grand Finals was made up of prominent locals like Genervie Kam, previously a judge on Astro Ria’s Akademi Fantasia, ChiChi & ChaCha TV host Harris, producer of the ChiChi & ChaCha show Ryan Gerard Felix, professional musician Stan Calvin and Cleona Lee, the general manager and stage director of Mizz Nina Production. Audiences also took part in the event by voting for their favourite contestant to receive “The Popularity Award”, which went to Leong for his entertaining beatboxing skills.

Sharing on his win, Leong, who has only been beatboxing for nine months said, “I’m happy that I won and I’m excited to go on tour.”

Struys added, “All the kids did such an amazing job and I’m just so shocked to see how young and how brave they are. They were so incredible.”

During the talent search, audiences were entertained by ChiChi & ChaCha mascots and learnt the ChiChi & ChaCha dance steps directly from the TV show’s hosts, Sweet and Harris, who have won top prizes in nationwide talent competitions like Idola Kecil and Ceria Popstar. Children also won exclusive ChiChi & ChaCha merchandises through a colouring contest that took place.

Even the kids having fun..

For the fifth year running, Group MAD collaborated with proPassion Communications as an industry mentor in providing students with practical advice on numerous events.

“At Group MAD, we strive to help clients improve performance by building great brands and inspiring leaders. Through the mentoring with proPassion, it is also a way of us playing a part in shaping these young leaders into the professionals that they will become in the future; by helping them to learn the ropes of the industry through hands-on experience,” said Crystal Koh, Group MAD Branding and Communications Senior Manager.

“We hope that it was a learning experience for them as much as it was for us as we are constantly inspired by their passion and willingness to learn,” added Koh.

The non-ticketed event was supported by BROS, Big Hug Burger, Faber-Castell Malaysia, Foodpanda, Kiz Sport & Gym, MacGician Distribution, Molly Fantasy, Planet Popcorn and Yites Studio.

Red Apple blog

Friday, September 12, 2014

The blog has been renamed Red Apple Blog because teachers and friends called me Red Apple. I have red cheeks and I have red ears too sometimes.

I hope to go big apple city, it's New York. I like to watch Home Alone movies but I am scare being alone. My favourite Home Alone movies of 1, 2, 3 and 4. For my mommy, her favourites are Home Alone 1 and Home Alone 2.

Teacher called me Red Apple

Teacher called me red apple because I have face look like apple, not really. Is just that my face would turn red is I feel hot. Even my ears will turn red, everyone in class started calling me red apple too. I don't mind as I do like to eat apple, it is healthy fruit.

Fruits are important sometimes I didn't eat, I find it hard to go restroom. I would tell my mom, I am not ready yet because I am still in restroom. When I was young I dislike vegetables, now I do eat vegetables but not all types of vegetables.

Now not only one teacher called me red apple, but many teachers too. I am standard two this year, next year my little brother going to kindergarten.

Train them young while you still can

Thursday, July 31, 2014

I feel that it is good to train the children young while you still can. Imagine if they are older and not willing to listen to you anymore. Well some perhaps not all of them.

I trained my 8 year old to wash his school shoes so he knows how to do it by himself. I told him to bring up clothes he needs to change after shower.

I haven't teach him on packing clothes, I think it will be good idea to do so. This way he knows what he needs to pack to the destination, and of course how many days he gonna stay over.

Brain activities center for kids

Monday, July 7, 2014

Being parent I am sure we want to have the best for our children, do you there's brain activities center for children? They have like left brain/right brain, which will give children to do assessment etc.

Anyway it's not cheap to have children attend this classes.

One of my son's classmate, he didn't go for this classes but he enrolled for English center. They are not cheap too, the course is expensive but they have told the parents if they didn't achieve the result they can attend again the same level for free. Indeed, her children gets to attend for free until they have pass the level.

As for the brain activities center, I am not sure if they have such guarantee for parent.

What do you think?

I feel that best brain activities for children are sports, that's where they can sweat it out and have a good health at the same time.

Son asking for Xbox or PS4 games

Sunday, June 29, 2014

This is unexpected, son told his dad that he wants to play Xbox games or PS4 games. We don't own any console of these games. I didn't encourage him to play any of them, since it's enough having just Ipad to play. Son complains that my computer is old and slow that's why he cannot play the games.

Anyway I told him that's he's no good with exam results, it's better he forget about playing these expensive games. If he's result is good and being A students like his friend, I am sure he can be like them to play whatever games they prefer. No kidding, his classmate not having just good grades but also good in playing games. Well, I don't think anyone is born genius, his classmate must be good in organizing their times to play and study well.

It's not fair to put them see who is smarter and who's not, I just want the best for my son. I don't him to tired out playing games, sports are more healthy and sweat for good!

SPREADING MORE THAN GOODNESS ON WORLD MILK DAY

Friday, May 23, 2014

Petaling Jaya, 14 May 2014 – In celebration of World Milk Day this year, Dutch Lady Malaysia will go beyond spreading the goodness of milk with a campaign that helps Malaysian children adopt an active and healthy lifestyle.

Aptly named Drink.Move.Be Strong, the campaign essentially encourages children to drink one glass of milk a day and spend one hour a day on outdoor exercise.

Putting the campaign into action, Dutch Lady Malaysia will present the first Jr. NBA programme in Malaysia. Under its Drink.Move.Be Strong campaign, the NBA’s international youth development programme will serve as a vehicle to promote physical activity through basketball participation.

Rahul Colaco, Managing Director of Dutch Lady Malaysia, said the Jr. NBA programme promotes not only basketball participation, sportsmanship and teamwork, but more importantly, an active lifestyle among children. “It has been staged in the Philippines for seven consecutive years, and has reached more than 80,000 students, parents and coaches participating in its camps, clinics and activities. We plan to present Jr. NBA Malaysia as an annual programme to get more and more Malaysian children and parents appreciate and reap the healthful benefits of sports,” he added.

Jr. NBA Malaysia 2014 presented by Dutch Lady Malaysia will conduct a series of exciting basketball clinics and camps to get children to be active and drink milk. It will officially launch on 31 May, 2014, a day before World Milk Day (on 1 June, 2014) at Stadium MABA, Kuala Lumpur.

“We are thrilled to partner with Dutch Lady Malaysia to help improve the health of children across Malaysia,” said Francesco Suarez, Vice President, Global Marketing Partnerships, NBA Asia. “Basketball has a significant participation base, the game is easy to learn, and is a great way to teach boys and girls the importance of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to the support of Dutch Lady Malaysia, we are bringing Jr. NBA to Malaysia where, together, we can speak directly to kids, parents, and educators about health and fitness.”

On the impetus of the Drink.Move.Be Strong campaign, Colaco said it is founded on the belief that every child’s growth and development is heavily influenced by both nutrition and daily exercise. “It is also conceptualised to address nutritional and lifestyle gaps found in Malaysian children based on the the findings of SEANUTS (or South East Asian Nutrition Surveys),” he said.

SEANUTS is a nutritional study on children aged six months to 12 years in four South East Asian countries including Malaysia. Its key findings on Malaysian children indicated one in 20 were underweight; one in five were overweight or obese; a high proportion of school-aged children reported low physical activity; and nearly half the children had Vitamin D insufficiency. These findings implicate parents, schools, healthcare professionals, policymakers and even the private sector need to play proactive roles in educating and getting Malaysian children to adopt a healthier lifestyle with the right nutrition and more physical activities.

“Through the Drink.Move.Be Strong campaign, we hope to harness the power of both nutrition and basketball to enable Malaysian children to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle,” said Colaco.

Participation in Jr. NBA Malaysia 2014 presented by Dutch Lady Malaysia is free and open to boys and girls between five and 14 years old. There are four stages to the programme, starting with a series of clinics for coaches and children in the first. The sole coaches clinic will be held on 31 May at Stadium MABA; and a series of open clinics for kids will follow starting with a clinic at Sekolah Wawasan, USJ15 on 1 June.

In the second stage, a two-day Selection Camp will be conducted in August, during which the top 40 boys and top 24 girls aged 10 to 14 years will be chosen to participate in the National Training Camp in stage three. Children who participate in clinics as well as school players are welcomed to join.

The National Training Camp, which makes up the third stage of the programme will be held in Kuala Lumpur from August 22-24. It will be attended by an NBA Legend or Player, and it covers a three-day intensive training schedule and culminates with the selection of 10 boys and four girls who will be named as the inaugural Jr. NBA Malaysia All-Stars.

In the final stage, the Jr. NBA Malaysia All-Stars will be provided with a unique, overseas NBA Experience trip and the opportunity to play against a counterpart team from another country later in the year.

In addition to Dutch Lady Malaysia, Spalding will serve as the supporting partner of Jr. NBA Malaysia. Astro is the Official NBA Broadcaster. The event is also supported by the Westports Malaysia Dragons.

You can also check out Dutch Lady Facebook, for info.

Godzilla 2014

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

It's going to be special night as I'm going to bring my son for a movie. We gonna watch Godzilla 2014.

This weekend we'll continue with the revision for exam, though friend share me on free movie for weekend. But I think it's best to revise at home since we are going for movie tonight, there's no need to watch twice of movies in a week.

It's not the same movie, but I prefer him to study at home. It's never easy to teach him, he's getting lazy and harder to teach.

Movies for him

Monday, March 24, 2014

I bought some books from Popular hoping to teach him and guide him to do. Sadly he's lazy not willing to do more than two pages. My friend told me that her hubby is the one guiding her kids in education, in fact last minute teaching them, they can still get flying colours.

Anyway son request to watch his favourite movie, Captain America, Rio 2, and more in future.

His exam result is not very good, though I know he's not the best in class and not the worst in class. I hope he understand that education each level and exam will be getting tougher and tougher.

My nephew was here for the education fair, his first interest to check out Nothingham in Malaysia. Good choice for him, but not sure if his parents can afford him on this education or not.

There's always best, 2nd best, 3rd best. We still need keep some money for emergency.

I fear my children education when time comes, the price ...

Son wants reward for good mark

Wednesday, March 12, 2014
